Paying For Rehab
We are proud to offer the
Devon J. Roberts Memorial Scholarship
to assist residents of South Mississippi who are struggling to pay fees associated with drug addiction treatment. Devon lost his long battle with addiction on 8/21/22. He was a kind young man, raised in Ocean Springs, MS. When healthy, he did his best to help others struggling with addiction and we know he would be proud for that legacy to continue through our scholarship in his memory.
10 WAYS TO HELP PAY FOR REHAB
1
The Rehab
You have to ask, but many treatment programs offer financial assistance. It's often possible to ask for payment arrangements where you don't have to pay it all up front. This can give you time to raise more money. They also may know avenues for funding that you're unaware of. They WANT patients, so they usually know how to get them financial help if it's available.
4
Local Sources & People
If you attaned church or are a member of another civic organization, they often have emergency funds for members. Ask the clergy or head of the organization.
Ask your family and close friends if they can help assist. This is no time to let your pride stop you from getting treatment for yourself or a loved one.
7
Raffles
Raffles can be high income generators- think thousands of dollars. We raised $12,000 raffling off two cases of shrimp in 4 weeks. You can get bulk seafood, meat, fish, etc fro a local food distributer for a fraction of the normal cost and some will donate it. "Getaways" are also successful. Know someone with a vacation property? Have any sports tickets? Get creative!
2
Private Insurance & Medicaid
Most private insurances will pay something for rehab. In-Patient and out-patient coverage is usually different so ask. Medicaid may also be an option even if you aren't currently enrolled- especially if the rehab is out of state.
Some rehabs will even get the patient enrolled in Medicaid for you and bill for what they know you'll owe.
5
Hidden Assets
You may have access to funds that you don't normally think to use such as:
- IRA Withdrawl
-Borrow from retirement
(In cases of medical fees, you can possibly avoid penalty for early withdrawl)
-Home Equity Loan
-Selling unused items such as exercise equipment, old cars, anything really. You could make $1000 from a good yard sale!
8
Sports Event
5K - Tennis - Golf
Atlhetes and fun seekers love a good run or tournament and most don't what it supports. Partner with someone who has hosted an event or plays in these events and they can help you set one up. It doesn't have to be huge to be income generating. Just remember to try and get things donated so your expenses aren't high.
3
Grants / Scholarships
Seek out other small local funding sources similar to our scholarship. Your job may offer assistance through an EAP. Ask HR. There are also private and state grants that offer assistance. Search them out on websites like GrantWatch, TheGrantPortal, GrantGopher, & GrantStation. Specify "individual" in your search.
6
Crowdsourcing
You've probably donated to a medical GoFundMe before. Set one up for yourself or loved one. Tell their story, humanize them, and ask fior help. Once you let go of fear of ridicule or judgement, you'll be shocked at how supportive most of your friends and family will be. You could also make a private facebook group and invite only your closest friends. Share the link there if you don't want to go "public."
9
Silent Auction
These are great and can be virtual or live. You could use a parish hall of a church, an event space or even a public park. Get a few friends together and each find a few good items for the auction and your set. Maybe combine it with a fish fry or cookout fundraiser and you'll make bank. Online sites like GiveButter host online auctions that you can promote on your social media.
10
Loans & Credit Cards
People take out loans every day for cars and other high-dollar purchases. Check with your bank. Look into "Care Credit." Check how much available credit you have on existing credit cards. Rehab takes plastic!
